Today was good! Taxi to town, changed money, explored, then met residents at hospital. They seem like a good bunch. Some basic supplies are low, or absent. My amnihooks (for rupturing membranes) were greeted with much fanfare. I wish I had known about other needs, however.
Most labs and radiology exams are available to us. They have a good blood bank. Much need for it because of malaria.
I am excited to really get started on Monday.
Here is my lunch today
Roti with fish curry and mango.
Indian food?
ReplyDeleteMost "local food" is Indian, Indian Guyanese are the largest population. British colonized, then brought Indians over to work land for pay, and African slaves. the British left, and the Indians and Africans stayed. There are a few Amerindians, too, but in the minority.
ReplyDeleteA Guyanese woman I was talking to on the plane from New York was telling me how much she was looking forward to getting back to Guyanese cooking. When I asked what she especially missed, she said "the Chinese food" !
ReplyDeleteKnew the Brits imported Indians to Africa, didn't realize to South America as well (though it should follow). Food & people sound like an interesting mix!
