Food

Since I seem to be blogging my lunches, here is my "egg ball".  Boiled egg wrapped in mashed potato and deep fried. Served with hot sauce. Wow!

I may really have to stay in Guyana for the food.

And here's my pathetic dinner, tuna sandwich and beer.

Happy New Year!

Busy day, not much time for posting.

Not much time for out and about pictures.  So I took a few in the hospital.

Guyana has a national health care system, unlike the US.

Basic operating room. "Theater" it's called here.

More Guyana pics

No McDonalds, but there is a Quiznos?  Who thought of opening a branch in Guyana?  Any way, you may not be able to make it out but there is a Quiznos in the green building.
Walkway in central Georgetown. Kinda rainy today.

A school.

Lunch 2

Today's lunch:  curry noodles.  Kind of Indian meets Chinese meets -- Delicious!

Selfie

After first surgery. Yes my scrubs say "labor coach" a recycle from some hospital in the states.

Went well.

Nightlife Guyana style.

One of the OB Gyn residents had a birthday, so I was invited to a nightclub to celebrate. Called Gravity, it is on top of a 6 story building with a good view of the city.

Very pleasant evening, sitting out under the stars and nice of the residents to think of including me!

Today

Today was good!  Taxi to town, changed money, explored, then met residents at hospital. They seem like a good bunch. Some basic supplies are low, or absent. My  amnihooks (for rupturing membranes) were greeted with much fanfare. I wish I had known about other needs, however.

Most labs and radiology exams are available to us. They have a good blood bank. Much need for it because of malaria.

I am excited to really get started on Monday.

Here is my lunch today

Roti with fish curry and mango.

Arriving at airport

I will have to try some Sari sometime.

Arrived

Plane arrived 3 am. Drove  to the housing, it is very comfortable. Even has wifi for blogging!
Notice the AC unit. I don't know why the shared kitchen is so big.

Time to go to bed.

Pedicure

Ok. I did splurge and get a pedicure during my 7 hour JFK layover.

Blog going viral

By the way, Kirk and mom, Anu now has the link to this blog.

Bored at JFK

Kirk and I had this exchange while  trying to keep two conversations going, one about my blog and the other about the movie Ray saw last night with friends (the Wolf on Wall Street). Hope you find it amusing:

NYC

LLanded in New york. Hair washed, teeth brushed. I feel better!

There are pigeons in the terminal. So I guess pigeons really can fly.

Minneapolis

Decided not to text Kirk at 2 am Alaska time to let him know I made it safe to MSP.

In case I left you hanging about my choice of novel, I actually chose sleep.

Anchorage

I've already decided that I'm not going to keep up this blog unless I'm enjoying doing it.

So far so good. My travel time will be about 24 hours. 2 hours down.

Now my big decision is whether to start reading "Game of Thrones", or "Undead and Unemployed" a paranormal romance novel.
